Taylor's Ports hoping for League win over Glebe Rangers

The focus now turns to the tie with Glebe Rangers this Saturday.

“Glebe have been getting some good results on the table in the past few weeks, “ admitted Ports boss Taylor. “In saying that I have looked back and in the last eleven games we have played we have won five, drawn four and lost two - if these were points in the League we would well be out of the danger zone. We just have to put the Cup defeat behind us and focus on getting points on the board,” he said.

Stuart Millar was red carded for a second bookable offence and will miss Saturday’s tie, however Taylor is hoping that new signing Garret Quinn will be available and Ryan McAllister returns from suspension.

“I know heads were down after Saturday, but I know that the lads have had a chat amongst themselves and they know that it’s in their hands.

“A few of them are looking at the League table and panicking a bit, but I think if we focus we will survive.”

Taylor said that the good run in the Cup has given him time to look at players.

He praised debutante Ciaran Ferris who played on Saturday and forward Johnny Stewart.

“Ciaran made the step up and did very well. We told Johnny to get into the box more, he is a great finisher and he proved that on Saturday,” gushed Taylor.

Speaking about Jason Wilmont’s Glebe, Taylor added: “Glebe have a very tight knit side, and we will need to match that on Saturday.

“We have home advantage, so I hope that we can lift ourselves and get a win.”

Wilmont made it very clear that Porstewart’s league position is not a reflection on their performances.

“They are a very good side, with some good players and a very good manager.

“We need to go out and put them away and take the three points and we need to do the same the week after,

“This is a crazy month for us. We have Portstewart and Coagh in the next two weeks and it’s vital we keep picking up three points.

“We scraped through against Wakehurst which is the main thing.

“We will go to Portstewart with the aim of not losing so if you start with point and if you finish with a point then Portstewart haven’t gained on you in the table.

“After that we will push on for the win and all three points.

“If we come away with six points from the next two games then that gives us some chance of staying up in this league.
