Team-mates wish Ferguson well

The Under 10’s lost 5-2 to Ballymena United, U11’s went down 6-1 to Ballymoney United, U13’s lost 3-0 to Ballymoor in the NIBFA Cup third round and the Under 19’s narrowly lost 4-3 to Portadown Thirds.

Both the Under 14 and 15’s had score draws with Bertie Peacock and Foyle Wanderers respectively.

This weekend the Under 10’s face Maiden City (KO 9.45am); U11’s take on Magherafelt Sky Blues Pumas (KO 10.10am); U11’s face Maiden City Academy (KO 10.45am) and all those games take place at Ballysally.

The Under 13’s face Glenadowen at Lisneal (KO 11am) and Colin Colhoun’s Under 19 side travel to Larne.

While Under 14 player Mark Ferguson sustained a serious injury during Saturday’s game in which he suffered a broken leg. The coaches, players and parents of the U14’s and all at the Club would like to send their sincere best wishes to Mark during his recovery.

There will be a special collect for Mark at Institute’s Irish Cup tie against Kilmore Rec, on Saturday.

The Under 10 team travelled to Ballysally on Saturday morning to face Ballymena United in what was their first game in a few months.

The match started evenly and there was chances at both ends with Allen in nets making some fine saves and Burnett and L Boyd having their shots declined by the Ballymena keeper. Play became rough and this upset the ’Stute players and knocked them off their game to which the Ballymena side took advantage of this scoring four goals in a row.

After a reassuring team talk at half time ’Stute came back on to the pitch focused and began to play some good football. The move of the match involving A Boyd, McArthur, Curry and Burnett ended with the Ballymena keeper making a great save. Against the run of play Ballymena forced up the pitch scoring to make it 5–0.

To ’Stute’s credit, the boys continued to play well and got their reward when Curry scored a free kick. Spurred on, Cloete and Lynch showed some great link up play to allow L Boyd through to goal to make it 5–2.

A few other chances for both sides came to nothing and the ended at 5–2 to Ballymena United.

Overall this game was lost in the first half when the referee should of taken more control of the game. Credit to the ’Stute boys for remaining calm throughout.

Having already beaten Ballymoor in the National League this season the Under 13’s approached this match with some confidence, but they well aware of the Ballymoor side’s quality.

After a slow first half from both teams with Ballymoor perhaps edging the chances, Ballymoor came out in the second half with it seemed a greater degree of determination.

Ballymoor’s first goal came from right back Odhrán Casey who headed in from a corner when left unmarked. ’Stute had their first player sent off this season and Ballymoor then pushed to increase their lead.

Their second goal came with combination play from striker Callum Doherty and centre midfielder Shea McCaul to play in Shane McIntyre who turned quickly and finished in the bottom corner.

The third goal came when substitute Caoimhin Porter scored with his first touch of the ball unmarked with a powerful header into the top corner from another corner.

The U13’s paid for a disappointing second half effort and lapses of concentration from set pieces and uncharacteristic indiscipline.
