‘Team’s are stopping us play’ - Kee

INSTITUTE’S Head of Football Development Paul Kee was a frustrated man following their disappointing 2-0 defeat at Tobermore United, on Saturday.

Kee, was fuming that for the umpteenth time this season the players failed to show the necessary grit and determination to grind out a result.

“To be honest it’s just not good enough and there is nothing else I can say about it, I’m disappointed,” explained Kee.

“The wheels have come off a bit since the Coleraine game, the opponents we are playing like Ballinamallard and Tobermore know that we are a good side and they are stopping us from playing, that’s it.

“They are working hard, they want it more than us and we can’t break them down that’s what the problem is.

“The players have to realise the other side of the game, which is about hard work, endeavour, attitude and commitment, all the basic stuff, but they know it.”

The Drumahoe man believes the young Institute side need to toughen up if they want to get back to winning ways.

“They (Tobermore) got players behind the ball, so it’s always going to be hard to break that down; you are looking for a break of the ball, some creativity, maybe at set-pieces or a corner kick, but it isn’t happening for us now.

“We aren’t good enough to deal with it at the minute and it is a concern, but I have told the players that they need to take ownership of it as well.

“The thing is against Ballinamallard with ten men we dominated most of the match, against Tobermore we dominated most of the match, we have given them two soft goals and we haven’t created enough chances, we haven’t worked their goalkeeper and their two banks of four have worked extremely hard so you don’t need to be a rocket scientist to analyze it. At half-time whenever we were going off some of their players were actually saying that ‘they were wrecked’ and that’s because we are popping the ball about.

“In fairness they wanted to win and I’ll tell you why because I know there is two or three players in the Tobermore side that would give their right arm to be playing for Institute, so most of them are out to prove a point, but at the same time we aren’t going anywhere at this minute in time.”

Kee also feels ’Stute are missing striker Stephen Parkhouse’s presence up front, despite coming off the bench at Fortwilliam Park the former Coleraine man is struggling with a hamstring problem.

“If we are expecting to have the right to win every match we are not, are we good enough as a team, yes I think we have enough ability and talent in the changing room, but we aren’t winning football matches and the reason why because we don’t have that formula yet knowing when we are playing against a big side, how to break them down.

“In fairness we miss Parky (Stephen Parkhouse) when he’s not playing, because he has that little bit of experience and guile and his physical presence at Tobermore would have helped us because we could have started to mix the ball into their box.

“Mark Kelly has a certain amount of presence but he’s still learning the game, Davitt (Walsh) has huffed and puffed in fairness he was out a couple of weeks and he has worked hard, Sean McCarron has a lot to learn about his game, he’s a talent, he has fast feet in and around the box but he’s still learning the game.”
