Donaldson’s second spot-kick success of the afternoon cut the gap before Lee Bonis celebrated his return from long-term injury with an equaliser.

Alan Ritchie’s corner-kick delivery was steered home by Matthew Donaldson and the latter’s hat-trick finish arrived off a Gareth McCombe pass.

“We managed to tighten it up at the back as the game went on,” said Portadown BBOB manager Robert Love. “We always have confidence in our attacking players but it was great to see the defensive improvement across the second half.

“They hit the post and we had a goal ruled out.

“We want to keep on working on the defensive basics.”
