This game had all the credentials of being a great match but it was some refereeing decisions which were the talking point of after match conversations.

Gary Simpson’s side produced probably their poorest first half performance of the season, but credit to the visitors, as they closed United down quickly forcing them to give the ball away on numerous occasions.

Crumlin took a deserved lead after 10 minutes when they awarded a free just to the right of the box, their midfielder Barry McKervey’s cross-cum-shot caught out United net-minder Corey Wilson.

Newbuildings continued to struggle to get going and with the Belfast men looking dangerous on the counter, they doubled their lead after 20 minutes.

Winger Garry Reilly was fouled inside the box by the back-tracking Garth Falconer and that man McKervey made no mistake with the resulting spot-kick.

As the game progressed the Belfast side continued to stop Newbuildings play their usual passing game.

The referee took centre stage again just after the half-hour mark when after an incident in the corner of the pitch he sent Steven Wallace.

The home side were really up against it now but after the interval they came out a different side, despite the numerical disadvantage they pressed the visitors back and looked the more likely team to score.

They finally got on the score sheet when Stephen Curry found space just outside the box, turned and fired past the keeper into the corner of the net.

Utd continued to push forward and Curry was unlucky with a free kick which the Crumlin keeper did well to turn over the bar.
