The Vendeens are coming ‘home’ to take part in Milk Cup

This year’s Milk Cup will feature a team from the Vendee in France, the capital of which is La Roche-sur-Yon, Coleraine’s Twin Town!

The Milk Cup organisers were very keen to have a top quality French team at the 2013 tournament and thanks to the Coleraine Twinning Association this has been able to be achieved.

La Roche-sur-Yon have previously competed at the tournament, but that was a long time ago and the standards have risen in the interim.

It was therefore decided that the county team of the Vendee should be the French flag holders in the Premier Section this year.

The French squad will be managed by Eric Vincent who met with Victor Leonard MBE and Twinning representatives to finalise the details last summer.

This is a talented squad which will be extremely competitive in their section so stand by for some French va va voom from the Vendeens!

A side from Coleraine’s twin town of la Roche-sur-Yon in France took part in the inaugural tournament way back in 1983.

It was all very much an experiment in 1983 with eight Ulster teams and an equal number of visitors including the French team and a team from Algeria.

In the end it was Motherwell who triumphed beating Coleraine in the final.
