Three and easy for Courts

WATERSIDE men Lincoln Courts had a comfortable 3-0 success over Desertmartin Swifts in the Matt Morrsion Junior Cup, on Saturday.

The majority of the first half saw the Swifts defence stand firm, limiting Courts to long range efforts from Mark Hamilton, Steven Mooney and Chris O'Hara, but all shot failed to trouble the visitors keeper.

When the visitors did break, Courts' defence and new signing keeper Ian Killen were always in control, with the tie well balance at half-time, Swifts started the second half on the front foot, but Killen did well early after the break, diving full stretch to turn the effort around his post.

From the resulting corner Courts broke up field through Mooney's run and won themselves a corner, which Chris O'Hara, took and midfielder Gordon Murray made no mistake powerfully heading home.

With the game spread out Lincoln found it easier to get behind the visitors, left back Lee Laverty crossed in to Mooney who went up with the keeper and knocked the ball down to Hamilton who fired home from close range.

Murray and Richard Adams by this time were well in control of the midfield and with Jason Hay just back from a two month injury lay-off, in fine form Desertmartin were finding it hard to cope at the back.

Eventually Lincoln's pressure led to another corner in the 75th minute and they added a third, which was a carbon copy of the opener, O'Hara's curling corner into the area found Murray who again made no mistake.

The visitors never say die attitude saw them again push forward but with Killen in fine form between the sticks, making two more full stretch saves from long range shots, thus dening the visitors any chance of getting back into the match.
