Three out of four for local teams

THERE were wins for Lisburn Youth, Hillsborough Boys and Lisburn Distillery Youth at the Lisburn Youth Shield finals at Ballymacoss Playing Fields on New Year’s Day.

Locals claimed the under-11, under-12 and u-15 Shields, but the Whites lost out in the 17s, though they were the only club to come away with a win and a defeat at the finals.

UNDER-11: LISBURN YOUTH 7 RIDGEWAY ROVERS 0

LISBURN Youth were strong favourites to win this one and they made no mistake with a 7-0 win.

Youth started brightly and the deadlock was broken when Oisin Barr opened the scoring, with Conor Hamilton adding the second. Five goals after the break secured the win with goals from Tyler Baines, Adam Donnelly, top scorer Hunter. Barr grabbed his second, with Donnelly wrapping things up to make it seven.

Youth’s Callum McVeigh won the man of the match award.

UNDER-12: HILLSBOROUGH BOYS 2 SHANKILL JUNIORS 0

TWO second-half goals from Sam Miller gave Hillsborough Boys a 2-0 win in an entertaining final against Shankill Juniors, who had earlier in the season won the League meeting 5-2.

Nathan Doak, Hillsborough, was voted the man of the match.

UNDER-13: ANNAGH UTD YOUTH 5 OXFORD SUNNYSIDE BOYS 2

TWO second-half goals gave Annagh Utd Youth a 5-2 win over Oxford Sunnyside Boys.

Darragh Gray, who won the man of the match award scored, Jackson Nesbitt got two, Dillon Hughes and Rhys Calvert scored for Annagh with Josh Galloway and Tiernan Kelly replying.

UNDER-14: COMBER YOUTH 4 SHANKILL JUNIORS 3

COMBER Youth won their first Lisburn trophy with a thrilling 4-3 success over Shankill Juniors with six of the goals coming in the first-half.

Goals from Timothy Brown, who was judged as the man of the match, scored two and the others came from Josh Boal and Robbie Johnston when Comber led 4-2 at half-time.

Pierce Tait and Dillon Johnston had scored in the first-half before Tait’s second goal pulled Shankill back to 3-4.

UNDER-15: BLOOMFIELD YOUTH 1 LISBURN DISTILLERY YOUTH 2

LISBURN Distillery Youth were the better team in the first-half and took a 2-0 lead through Jason Tomlinson and Peter Freeland.

Bloomfield pulled one back late on through Daniel Martin and Distillery’s Kyle McCleery was named as man of the match.

UNDER-16: BANBRIDGE TOWN JUNIORS 1 GLENTORAN YOUTH 2

GLENTORAN Youth got off to a great start with goals from Joshua Doyle and Jake Moore in the opening ten minutes.

But, Banbridge came alive in the closing 25 minutes and pulled one back from Josh Cargin with the Glens reduced to ten men.

Banbridge got some reward when Josh Cargin was named man of the match.

UNDER-17: LINFIELD YOUTH 2 LISBURN DISTILLERY YOUTH 1

A CRACKING goal from 20 yards with only two minutes left by substitute, Declan O’Neill, earned Linfield Youth a 2-1 win over Lisburn Distillery Youth in the under-17 decider.

Gailen Magill’s penalty for Distillery was cancelled out by another spot kick from Curtis Dempster and a player from each side was red carded.
