Threesy does it as Ross sinks Kilroot in derby

A hat-trick hero in Saturday’s 4-0 victory at Kilroot Rec, it’s six goals in four games for 18th Newtownabbey striker Ross Miskimmin.

“Scoring goals had been our problem,” 18th manager Michael Jamison. “I knew there would be goals from Ross once he got himself fit, and thankfully now they’re starting to come. He gives us a different dimension up front. Now it’s just a matter of trying to keep them out at the back!”

Saturday’s clean sheet was 18th’s second of the season – the big problem being that both of them, along with two of their three league victories, have come against Kilroot. Jamison said he was surprised “at just how physical Kilroot were”. “I know you can understand teams scrapping for points, but I was disgusted with some of the tackles,” he said.

While agreeing 18th were the better side, Kilroot’s caretaker manager Mervyn Smith lamented not capitalising on early chances. If we had taken them it might have been a different story.”

Amongst the culprits were Jamie Wright and Chris Rea.

Aside of the Miskimmin hat-trick, 18th’s other marksman was Kyle Blain.

On Saturday, 18th travel to Newington Rangers, managed by ‘old boy’ Geordie Lynn, while Kilroot Rec face a tough Intermediate Cup tie away to Paul Kirk’s Lisburn Rangers.
