Tiffany’s top form can’t keep Town from heavy Cup defeat to PSNI

Banbridge Town Ladies travelled to the PSNI in the first round of the NIWFA Cup in the first of these three away games.

Missing several players through various reasons, Town went down 4-0.

Banbridge knew they would need a bright start and the goal scoring hero Lauren Thompson from the previous week sought to add to her tally after rounding the keeper but just brought it too wide and could only hit the side netting.

Next up was Michelle Spence who looked to cross the ball but unknowingly nearly chipped the keeper, only a great save keeping the scores level. Up until then, the PSNI did not look to threaten the locals but that soon changed as they went on to score three quick-fire goals in 10 minutes.

Banbridge couldn’t stop the onslaught from the opposition but soon got their foothold back in the game.

BTLFC started the second half lively and knew they would need a quick goal to get back into the game. They created several great chances for Michelle Spence, Tiffany Hagen and Jena Redpath and but for some fine defending and goalkeeping from the opposition, the score could have been equal once more. As Banbridge continued to push for a goal, they found themselves stretched and this led to another PSNI goal.

BTLFC Player of the Match: Tiffany Hagen – a great working performance from Tiffany who fought to the very end and worked tirelessly to get something back for the team.

BANBRIDGE TOWN: D. Byrne, C. Moffatt, A. McMullan, B. Ervine, B. Thompson, T. Brush, M. Spence (C), J. McKay, L. Thompson, T. Hagen, J. Redpath. Subs: S. McDowell, R. Kelly.
