The Lurgan Blues boss is keen to quell the growing optimism around Mourneview Park on the back of just one defeat since August.

“I can understand some fans thinking we might have a chance this year but I don’t believe we are ready for that giant step just yet,” said the boss.

“Maybe we can be in a position to challenge if we keep going the way we are, but it could take a few seasons.

“We have won three on the bounce and yet have not moved up the table. That shows just how tough it is in the top half. Coleraine are on a great run and we have not been able to catch them.

“Crusaders are 11 points ahead of us and at this stage they look as if they will go on and win the title again.

“We are on a decent run and that is all down to the players who never know when they are beaten. That facet of our game started when we brought in William Murphy, Kyle Neill, Eddie McCallion, Mark Farren, Gareth McKeown and Ciaran Martyn - players who knew what it was like to win. That has carried through to today and even though many of squad have not won anything they have a great hunger to do so.”

Glenavon hope to carry on their run of form at The Oval on Saturday.

However, manager Hamilton knows it will be tough.

“I don’t see us as favourites,” added Hamilton. “No matter when you go to the Oval you can expect a tough game. With a new manager on board at the Glens players naturally raise their game but we have a chance if we play the way we have been over the past
few weeks.”
