Tobermore seal impressive away win

Glebe Rangers 1-2 Tobermore Utd UNITED travelled to Ballymoney last Saturday for an important league fixture hoping to put some more distance between them and their local rivals and also to shake off the disappointment of the narrow Boxing Day cup final defeat.

This was never going to be an easy fixture for boss Johnny Law against his old employers and the hosts held the upper hand regarding statistics having won 1 and drawn 2 of the last three meetings between the two teams.

David McClements settled the nerves on the 20 minute mark when he blasted home from the edge of the box via the underside of the cross bar and Stuart Millar added a second 2 minutes later finishing well from the left side of the penalty box.

Neil Lamont and Sean Henneghan will both be wondering how they didn’t add to the score line with both missing chances that they would normally put away.

Davy Patton also had a good chance to make it 3-0 straight from the kick off in the second half but again the chance was lost. The home stopper did very well to stop at least two more good efforts from Lamont and McClements could also have added to his early score but couldn’t make it count.

As time wore on in the second half Glebe gained in confidence and with Tobermore not capitalizing on their dominance they began to put some decent moves together and Sammy Foster was needed to be at his best on a number of occasions.

Glebe did get a consolation goal that will disappoint Tobermore right at the death but they couldn’t do it again and United deservedly went home with all 3 points.
