Tobermore too good as Dundela given five-goal treatment

Dundela, however, was the better side for the first 15 minutes of this entertaining game playing some neat football and giving home stopper Matty McGraw plenty to do.

That all changed in a flash when Neil Lamont fired two quick goals past a helpless James Taylor on 16 and 18 minutes.

It was now the home team who were the dominant side, with the defence and midfield in charge of proceedings. They were creating the majority of chances and it was no more than they deserved when Dean Stewart hammered in number three on the half hour mark.

Lamont got his hat trick three minutes later to make it 4-0 and Trevor Parkhill, showing no sign of fatigue after his recent marriage, made it five on the stroke of half time.

The second half was always going to be an anticlimax after the five-star first half performance but that said both sides still created plenty of goal scoring opportunities with Dundela’s Mathew Burrows and Nathan Jones both bringing good saves out of McGraw.

At the other end Lamont had two good chances to add to his tally, but Taylor was determined that five was enough and he made some excellent stops. One in particular was top drawer when substitute Dean Brown shook off his marker and unleashed a powerful close range shot. He must have thought he’d made it six, but Taylor somehow got a strong hand on the ball to prevent the young striker getting onto the score sheet.

All in all a good day for the home side with a clean sheet and three more valuable points that lifts them back into joint second place in the Championship Two.

Tobermore have another big test next Saturday when they play Sport and Leisure in Belfast at 3pm.

Tobermore’s popular Mini Soccer sessions continue this Saturday morning.

As usual the fun sessions begin at 10am sharp (registration at 9.45am) until 11am in Maghera Leisure Centre and is open to all boys and girls of primary school age.

Players should turn up kitted out ready to play indoors with trainers and shin guards.
