TonaghPrimarycelebratesUEFA Day

PRIMARY 2 pupils at Tonagh Primary School recently took part in a mini football festival to celebrate UEFA Grassroots Day. This was one of many events taking place around Europe in order to mark this occasion and highlight how football can be used to bring everybody together in an enjoyable environment.

The day was organised by IFA/DENI Primary Schools Coach Justin Sheppard, who has been delivering the Minister’s Primary Sports Programme within the school all year, along with assistance from the Tonagh staff.

The pupils were split into teams and spent their day taking part in small-sided matches and skill specific stations. There were no scores recorded with fun and fair play the main aims of the day. The children could be seen high fiving and hand shaking at the end of each game, and those watching from the side could be heard cheering and encouraging all those who were taking part. With the event coming to an end it was smiles all round and everyone went home a winner!

Organiser Justin Sheppard felt the day was a great success and would like to thank the staff and pupils of Tonagh Primary School for all their assistance and support not just on the day, but throughout the year.
