The Brandywell side, who had Cliff Byrne sent-off for an off the ball incident with Dundalk’s Patrick Hoban in the 71st minute, were dejected at the final whistle, because they did more than enough to win the game.

The visitor’s took the lead on 44 minutes through Kurtis Byrne but Barry McNamee levelled things just before the break and City went in front in stunning fashion thanks to Michael Duffy’s long range strike, unfortunately Stephen Kenny’s side levelled things deep into stoppage time when Towell’s strike took a big deflection off Ryan McBride, before flying past Gerard Doherty.

After the game a bitterly disappointed Doherty spoke to Sentinel Sport’s Editor Kevin McLaughlin.
