Town Juniors do themselves proud at Dublin tournament

Banbridge Town Juniors had four teams representing their club in the Dublin Cup Tournament on the weekend of August 3-4.

Recognised as Ireland’s number one youth soccer competition, the local club were honoured to be taking part, and they had a very successful tournament as all the teams gained valuable experience that will stand by them for the new season ahead.

U8s A Team: The U8s, managed by Maynard Cull, did exceptionally well reaching the final but unfortunately lost out to a cruel goal at the end.

Their first game was an impressive 3-0 win over Banbridge Rangers, and although Rangers fought hard they were no match on the day for the Juniors who showed great skill and composure all over the park to see off their local neighbours.

The second game was a resounding 7-3 win over Shamrock Rovers B. The Juniors made five changes for this game but quickly found themselves 3-0 down.

However they soon turned things around when they hit the back of the net with seven fantastic strikes as they easily ran out comfortable winners.

Their third game was a very tough encounter against Trombi White and a 2-2 draw was more than enough to reach the final.

The final was an end-to-end affair as both sides were unable to find the net.

With extra time looming Shamrock Rovers A broke from defence and scored what proved to be the winner with seconds to go.

It was a cruel blow for this young team who played some super football on the day proving that they are a match for any team in the country.

A club spokesman said: “It goes to show that the development these young players receive at a progressive club like Banbridge Town Juniors results in top class performances at such elite tournaments as the Dublin Cup.
