Town looking to ‘kick on’ after tackling their defensive frailties in recent draws

After they conceded 19 in their opening six games of the season, it was evident work needed to be done to plug a leaky back line. Town have since conceded only twice in four games and have now kept two clean sheets on the trot.

Now Moffatt is hoping they can build on a strong platform.

“We’re getting there,” he said.

“Over the last three to four weeks, things have been very promising.

“We’ve been working on the defensive side of things because we were conceding goals far too easily. We were having to score two or three to try and get a point at times so that was never going to work.

“It has taken away from the other side of our game a bit but we had to shore things up and now we look really, really solid. Hopefully we can kick on.

“The mood has been positive but I was one of the last ones back into the changing room after the 0-0 draw at Newington on Saturday and it was like a morgue. I said that we had to remember this was a game away to one of the title-challengers. We wanted three points but not many teams will go there and even get one.

“It’s one of the hardest away games of the season and we created chance after chance. We could have won by two or three but we just didn’t take our chances.”
