Town recover from slow start

Camlough started the stronger and took the game to Lurgan but Town countered with Mo Hagan setting up Kevin McAlinden but his effort was saved.

Rovers got their noses in front with a strong run down Lurgan’s left and a well delivered cross to the feet of an in-coming attacker to score.

This seemed to spur Lurgan into action, the boys pushed on and a cross into Camlough’s box was headed down by Dylan Hoy to McAlinden who volleyed a crisp shot into the top right of the net. A good bit of build up play and a fine finish.

Lurgan’s central midfield were now getting some control. Town took the lead when Hoy played in Sid Tavares and he made no mistake.

Ryan Smyth and Michael Libowski came on as replacements as Lurgan consolidated their dominance at this stage of play.

A break from defence allowed Tiarnan Judge to make a strong run into the opponents have but his shot was saved.

Camlough were not out the game and as the half ended Ben Rodgers made a good block and reacted quickly to gather the rebound before their forward got a boot to it.

The first half chance of the second half fell to Rovers but Rodgers saved comfortably.

After that the Defence of Allen, Woolsey, Cassels and Judge coped well with any threat.

Town’s third goal came from Michael Libowski winning the ball in midfield and finding McAlinden who played in Shane Russell, his shot was saved but Cian Murtagh was alert to the loose ball and headed coolly into goal.

The Lurgan boys were now in control of the result and the game lost a little of its sparkle. Coach Uel Woolsey used the ‘role on, role off’ rule to freshen things up and Dylan Hoy shot over, shortly after Russell delivered a good cross into Camlough’s penalty area for Smyth to tap home to make it 4-1 to Lurgan.

As the game came to an end Hagan and Tavares interlinked but Sid’s effort went wide.

Overall a competent performance from the team apart from a slow start. Recognition should also go to the unsung work done by the defence and holding midfield, as well as new signing Michael Libowski who looks like he will make an impact in the games to come.
