Town U16s hold out for a deserved three points

The opposition were looking dangerous however Lurgan got the first goal when Dylan Hoy won the ball in midfield and drove strongly at Carrick’s defence then played a measured pass to Kevin McAlinden who finished well.

Carrick countered but found Town’s defence of Allen, Woolsey, Judge and Cassells resolute and keeper Rodgers handling was solid throughout.

Town doubled their lead when Shane Russell was brought down in the box and Curtis Cassells dispatched the penalty.

Hoy nearly got on the scoresheet but Carrick’s keeper saved well, Matthew Hagan got to the rebound but shot wide.

To Carrick’s credit they came out for the second half fired up and they pulled a goal back in what was a classic sucker punch move.

Ryan Smyth and Michael Lisowski came on for Hagan and Allen. As Carrick pushed for an equaliser the boys worked their socks off to block each attack and counter. Smyth made a good run but his cross was dealt with. As the game drew to an end Towns defence held firm with committed support from the midfield and credit must be given to everyone for sticking to the task to gain a hard won three points.
