Town urged to '˜not let their standards drop'

Watson watched his men produced what he called an ‘excellent team performance’ at the weekend when they defeated unbeaten league leaders Limavady United.

And he has demanded his side put in the same efforts against second bottom Portstewart this weekend.

“The message after the game from me and the players was to focus on next weekend,” he said.

“It’s a big game for us. It’s always a tough place to go but we need to keep this run going.

“We know we need to do all the same things this week and treat Portstewart exactly the same way we treated Limavady.

“The message will be hammered home that we can’t let standards drop.

“If we do that, we will be okay. But if we don’t, we will make problems for ourselves.

After such a top drawer display at Crystal Park last weekend, Watson is facing a selection headache with his new signings to add to the panel.

“The performance makes it difficult for me to change things,” Watson commented, “but I also have to look at each game individually because certain teams play certain ways and pitches are different.

“The lads know that training is a big factor for me too.

“I will be looking at how the lads work during the week. We have to have the right application and the preparation has to be spot on.”

Watson was also keen to praise those at the club who helped get Saturday’s match underway after the snow threatened the game going ahead.

“A lot of people at the club deserve a lot of credit,” he said.

“People like Andrew Cully, Stevie Greene and 84 year-old Leslie Matthews were down clearing the snow off the pitch.

“Without that, the game wouldn’t have gone ahead and they got their rewards with the three points.”
