Town win keeps up undefeated run away from Crystal Park

Saturday’s 2-1 win at Wakehurst was their first victory in the league on the road, but it stretches the run to six without defeat.

The victory follows draws at leaders Limavady, Coagh, Moyola, Newington and PSNI.

And, more importantly, it was a result that kept Town away from the dreaded relegation-threatened bottom five.

“It was a massive win for us,” said Town boss Ryan Watson.

“They were fighting for their lives and it was a big one for them because they probably saw it as a game that they could get something out of.

“We got there in the end though and in a game like that, that’s the important thing. It was a huge relief when the whistle went.

“It was a deserved win, I think. We were the better team and played the better football.”

Town fell behind before coming back to secure all three points and Watson reckons it took the scare of Wakehurst’s goal to fire his side on to victory.
He said: “When they got their goal, it sparked us into life. We knew we had to react and we did that really well. It was a massive 15 minutes for our season but we took the game by the scruff of the neck and got the goals we needed. It was a good time to get ahead and we saw the game out really well from there. We kept possession and let it fizzle out on them.

“It’s a result that keeps them down there and makes it all that more difficult now for them to get out of it. It might be getting too much for them now so perhaps that’s one of those relegation spots filled.

“It’s great to get that first win of 2016 under our belts so hopefully we can kick on from that now, go on another run and build up some more momentum.”
