“After three great years at Carrick Rangers, winning an historic treble and keeping them in the Premier League against the odds, I have decided to leave and join a club that gave me an opportunity to play when others didn’t,” the 27-year-old midfielder, who can also play as a striker, wrote on Facebook.

“For that reason, I’m delighted to re-sign for Dundela FC and I hope to help them get back to where they belong!”

He added: “[I] Would like to thank Gaz (Gary Haveron) and Millsy (Steven Mills) for bringing me to Carrick and the great players I played with.

“I also want to thank the Carrick fans who were brilliant with me during my time there and really making me feel very proud to play for my hometown club.”

Including his initial loan spell before making his move permanent, Roy scored 22 goals for Carrick. Arguably his most memorable strike came when he netted the winning goal in March’s dramatic 4-3 victory over Crusaders.

He is the latest Rangers player through the exit door at Taylor’s Avenue. Aaron Harmon and Aaron Smyth have left for Glentoran, Conor McCloskey switched to Ballymena United and Kyle Cherry joined Ards.
