The ex-Northern Ireland Under-21 international made 793 appearances for Glentoran, scoring 88 goals. He has four Irish League titles to his name and has won the Irish Cup six times.

Larne boss Davy McAlinden told the Times: “We have been looking to add leaders, people who can lead on the park as well as off it. Colin Nixon, without doubt, ticks those boxes.

“He brings good experience. He’s a winner. He’s won trophies at the highest level here. He’s captained one of the biggest clubs in the country. We’re hoping that he’ll bring all that experience and know-how to the club. We’re delighted to get him on board.”

He added: “He was always a player we appreciated. When he left Bangor it was a no-brainer to make our move. We’ve sold the club to him and Colin’s delighted to be on board.”

Nixon has signed for Larne until the end of the season. He will train with his new team-mates on Thursday evening and is available for selection for Saturday’s home league game against Loughgall.
