The result provided the end product promised by a patient Hamilton after four draws and a defeat from the previous six Danske Bank Premiership dates.

On-song Ballymena arrived in Lurgan having attracted widespread plaudits for wins over Linfield and Crusaders leading up to the weekend trip.

However, Eoin Bradley’s brace, efforts from Ciaran Martyn and Greg Moorhouse plus an own goal wrapped up three points with a five-star performance.

The result marked a key talking point within the Irish League but Hamilton has opted to maintain a measured approach.

“It was the first time this season we managed to get players out in correct positions, which obviously helped us overall,” said Hamilton. “We always had faith in our methods and kept calm in-house despite so much talk about previous scores.

People can be obsessed with results and not necessarily look at the big picture.

“We knew it would click and I was still happy with performances overall despite some of our results.

“I think, to be honest, some fans have been harsh on the team this season, especially when you consider the statistics show our numbers proved better in the draw with Carrick than on Saturday.

“The difference, of course, was we took our chances and got the rub of the green against Ballymena.

“We analyse everything internally and always had confidence our performances would eventually lead to the right results.”
