Twelve goals in opening game of Carnbane League

They started the game at a rapid pace and were soon one goal up. With great inventive football in the middle of the park a touch and move display ended with Sophie Megaw bagging her first of the season with a simple tap in.

Slane continued and chances from Davis, Moorhead and Malcolmson went wide or over. Slane were caught when a loose ball found its way to Damolly striker to equalise.

The locals kept the pressure on and again went in front when new signing Heenan found Davis. He twisted and turned the Damolly defence before crossing the ball with left foot and found Megaw and she placed the ball in the bottom corner.

Damolly got back into the game and for five minutes were on top and they took advantage of this. They scored three quick goals past the rusty Slane defence to go 4-2 up.

But Slane found their composure and then regained their shape and went back on the attack. Moorhead found Davis, he turned and his shot hit the corner of the net to make it 4-3 at half time.

The second half got under way and Slane once again dominated possession. They took the game to Damolly and were soon back on level terms when they forced a corner. Davis stepped up and his cross hit the post, rebounding in front of the keeper and into the net.

Both teams were up for the game and fought hard for the winner. Damolly again took the lead when a shot was well saved by Kinley but it fell to the feet of the Damolly forward for a simple tap in.

Straight from the restart Davis found Moorhead with a great crossfield pass. He saw the keeper off her line and his shot from 25 yards dipped under the bar and in for a wonder goal.

In the last few minutes there was even more drama when Damolly took the lead again as the tired Slane defence again were caught out. Damolly raced forward and rounded the keeper and scored.

Slane’s never say die approach to the game paid off again were Megaw was pulled down on the edge of the box. Up stepped Davis again and showed once again how dangerous he is from a dead ball situation when his shot rocketed into the top corner of the net for a stunning equaliser.

This was a great, enthusiastic start from the young Slane team who have been rebuilding from last season. The introduction of some new players have strengthened the squad and on the day they fought hard for a well earned point which maybe could have been more if they had taken chances.
