The 19-year-old played the full 90 minutes in Sunday’s 2-1 win over Everton, helping boss Louis van Gaal achieve back-to-back Premier League wins.

United new boys Angel di Maria and Radamel Falcao were on target Old Trafford with Steven Naismith providing the Toffees’ response. Leighton Baines had late first-half a penalty saved by David de Gea.

The local lad kept Romelu Lukaku - a man who scored 16 top-flight goals last season - under wraps and surely has a big future for both club and country. He slotted in seamlessly into the back four, seizing another first-team opportunity with both hands after an injury crisis which has sidelined Phil Jones and Jonny Evans.

The former Ballyclare Secondary School pupil was handed surprise debut in last weekend’s victory over West Ham.

United’s next match is a trip to West Brom on October 20.
