Two goal advantage not enough for AFC

Banbridge AFC welcomed Seagoe to Cheney Park on Saturday in a league match.

From the start the AFC players looked really determined and although there was a few nerves initially they soon settled into the game creating several decent chances.

AFC took the lead through Neil McCullough with a superb attack from the right side which resulted in a shot that fooled the Seagoe keeper.

The locals heaped more pressure on Seagoe and were awarded a free kick which Michael Cunningham thumped into the back of the net from 25 yards to put AFC 2-0 up after 23 minutes.

This unbelievable start seem to spark Seagoe back into life, getting a goal back with 10 minutes to go before half time when a flick on ended up in the net.

With the second half underway the referee booked three AFC players. Seagoe soon equalised and AFC felt hard done by. A few injuries to AFC players from poor tackling lead to manager Beattie being forced into making substitutions.

These poor tackles continued and shifted the balance of the game. The frustration mounted and AFC Assistant Manager Anthony Blackburn could take no more, with the referee instructing him to leave the touchline.

Three wonder strikes later from Seagoe left the score line looking a lot worse than the game actually was final score 5-2 to the visitors.

Although bitterly disappointed with the result manager Beattie said, “I seen a massive improvement from the lads which shows there is hope for the team. As all the players worked very hard for the full game with excellent performances from back to front.”

Next up for AFC is a trip to Oxford Sunnyside this coming Saturday.
