U11s give Glenavon a dose of the blues

DROMORE travelled away to Lurgan for their first away match of the season, against Glenavon.

There was good support from parents who had come with an air of anticipation. Could Dromore remain unbeaten?

The answer to that question was not long in coming for within four minutes Dromore scored their first goal, after good pressing work by Matthew Magill who neatly finished off the move, from the outside of the box. It did not take long for Magill to get his second.

Dromore, now full of confidence, started playing the ball around well, with all nine players starting their third game unchanged.

The wide pitch allowed Dromore to spread the ball well. With Morgan and Matthew Briggs working well down the left and Joel and Adam down the right.

Next it was Euan to take a shot which just went wide of the left post. Then Matthew Briggs finished off two goals from close range and then saw his third shot turned into his own net by a Glenavon defender.

There was just enough time in the first half for another corner, taken by Joel and headed in by Adam.

In the second half two changes were made with Ben and Rileigh coming on for Adam and Matthew Briggs.

Glenavon started the second half much better. However Euan got his fourth goal of the season with a close range finish.

Euan then went into goal for the first time to give Josh a run out. Just as Euan had one glove on a shot came in from Glenavon but Euan made a great save.

Nathan was playing well at the back and hit a nice ball through to Rileigh whose shot was blocked but Ben finished it off with his first goal of the season. Joel was unfortunate not to score with a long range effort grazing the cross bar.

The final goal came from a lovely cross by Philip, met by a glancing header by Adam, giving him his sixth goal of the season.

The team is bonding well and are working hard for each other. Dave, one of the Dromore coaches, commented how the boys are enjoying playing, they are a delight to watch and are getting great results.

Next week’s game is at Lurgan Junior High School again against Portadown youth, kick off 10am.
