U12s undone by killer instinct

A KILLER instinct in front of goal was to be Town’s undoing in this close encounter on Saturday morning at Havelock.

Having got off to the perfect start with a goal after just four minutes, the Under 12s looked confident that this was going to be their first win of the season.

The goal game from the boot of Dozy Ajeh after great work from Lewis McBurney who sent the striker through to battle is way into the box and finish brilliantly into the corner past the keeper.

The lead was short lived as the visitors replied almost straight after the restart to level the match.

As Sunnyside went on the attack Town’s defence was put under pressure but they coped well with everything especially Jack Arlow who filled in at centre half and looked composed and confident in his play throughout.

Midfielder Jake Corbett’s defensive duties were first class when he cleared off the line and his midfield partner Shea Winters battled hard, winning tackles and setting up moves for the frontmen.

Ross Shields playing at left back put in a good shift as did new signing Jordan Kelsey who slotted in at right back.

The sides went in level at the break and it was all Town in the second period as they went on wave of attacks with Jamie Feeny playing well on the right and Lewis McBurney tigerish throughout on the left side of midfield.

Dozie Ajeh could have wrapped thing us for the Juniors when he was put clear on three occasions but unfortuntely the keeper denied him each time saving well.

As the game neared conclusion Sunnyside were awarded a dubious penalty but they missed the kick and Town went up the other end straight after and were denied two certain penalties when first Ben Johnston was upended then Dozy Ajeh was brought down after a goalmouth scramble.

Sunnyside added two late goals but the scoreline did not reflect the overall game as the Juniors can hold their heads high after a spirited and disiplined performance.
