U14s don’t get what they deserve from game

SOMETIMES in football you just don’t get the result that a performance deserves and this match was a classic case in point.

In a match that Dromore largely dominated, Lisbellaw somehow came away with all three points having been under immense pressure for a large part of the game and the full length of the second half.

All of the goals in this game were scored in the first half with Lisbellaw taking a two goal lead before Dromore pulled one back on the stroke of half time.

Lisbellaw opened the scoring after fove mins when a sliced clearance by a Dromore defender gave possession to a Lisbellaw striker who then hit a shot high over the keepers head and into the back of the net.

Dromore had a number of chances to draw level soon afterwards – Jack Fullerton shooting just wide from a good position after 10 minutess and William Donnelly forcing a great save from the Lisbellaw keeper only a few minutes later.

Lisbellaw, however, doubled their lead on 30 mins after a Dromore player lost possession on the half way line. Lisbellaw moved the ball quickly to exploit the open space at the heart of the Dromore defence and yet again the resultant strike left the Dromore keeper with no chance.

That was almost the end of Lisbellaw as an attacking force in this match however and it was one way traffic from that point onwards. Dromore piled on the pressure with corner after corner and Lisbellaw conceded a free kick in their attempts to clear one such corner on the stroke of half time. Louis Simpson smashed the resultant free kick ball off the Lisbellaw crossbar and Scott Thompson was first to react heading the ball over the line.

The second half was played almost exclusively in the Lisbellaw half and a number of Dromore players were unlucky to see their shots hit the back of the net. Matthew Clements let rip with a great strike from outside the Lisbellaw penalty area only to see it strike the woodwork, whilst in addition the Lisbellaw defence put in so many last ditch tackles and cleared the ball off the line on so many occasions that it was felt that it was only a matter of time before Dromore would firstly equalise – before going on to win the match.

It was not to be however and congratulations however must go to Lisbellaw for their dogged defence and workrate which kept the Dromore strikers at bay! A similar performance on any other day would have guaranteed all three points and hopefully this will be the case when the Dromore lads host near neighbours Lurgan Town at home next Saturday
