U14s keep up their unbeaten run

Banbridge Town U14s 2

Greenisland 0

BANBRIDGE took their unbeaten run to eight games with this impressive victory against Greenisland.

Town started the match slowly finding it difficult to get any sort of rhythm to their game but they stuck to the task and after 15 minutes Josh Buchanan received the ball from a throw in let the ball run past him and turned to hit a lovely controlled shot over the keeper’s head to open the scoring.

That was the turning point and they began to play more flowing football. David Gray played a lovely ball through to Robert Colfer who headed down for Josh Buchanan whose shot went just over the bar.

Then Philip O’Keefe put a terrific ball through to Stephen McCavitt who took the ball  around the keeper but unfortunately just ran out of room and the ball went for a goal kick.

Banbridge also lost key midfielder Declan Loy when he had to leave the pitch with a badly sprained wrist.

In the second half Banbridge looked to be in control although Greenisland did occasionally put together some good attacking play. However keeper Jonathan Walsh always seemed to have everything under control.

After 15 minutes of the second half Robert Colfer made a great run down the right and crossed to Stephen McCavitt who controlled the ball and drove the ball low past the keeper to double the lead.

Kalem Farrell also went close after some neat interplay with Andrew Martin but his shot was just wide. David Gray also went close with a great shot again that was just wide of the mark.

This win now takes Banbridge up to fifth position in the league.
