U16s make it four wins in a row in charge to the top

Banbridge Town Juniors U16s’ Lisburn League Team continued their winning streak with a hard fought 2-1 victory against Ridgeway on Saturday morning in Suffolk.

In difficult playing conditions in the first half the Town had to dig deep to get a foothold in the game, with Morgan anchoring the defence at the back, they found themselves under the cosh in the opening 15 minutes, with Ridgeway firing wide on a number of occasions.

Neither team were able to break the deadlock in the first half and the teams went in scoreless at half-time.

The second half with the strong breeze on their backs the Juniors managed to find their rhythm and the introduction of Rafferty gave the Ridgeway defence more to think about

With both Fearon and McAtamney now causing problems down the flanks it was left to the hardworking McCann to float a delicate chipped pass onto midfielder Houston’s head, to find the net from close range and put the Town a well-deserved 1-0 up.

With the bit between their teeth the Town now battered the Ridgeway goal and Rafferty got his just rewards getting onto the end of a fantastic McAtamney cross to put the Juniors two up and coasting.

However with only ten minutes to go Ridgeway had to up their game and they did manage to claw a goal back finishing from close range after a scramble in the Juniors goalmouth.

With only minutes remaining on the clock Leckey made an outstanding save to deny Ridgeway and Fitzsimmons made a last ditch tackle to hold on to the victory and another three points for the Town.

This was a gutsy display from Banbridge, even if not at their best they managed to get the win for the fourth consecutive match, which see them move into the top three of the league. Next up is Midway on Saturday morning.
