U16s sparkle away to Coagh United

The locals were eager to get back on track after two previous weekends produced one defeat and a postponement, and a return to their usual formation saw them quietly confident.

The game started after an immaculately-observed minute’s silence that saw both sides pay their respects, each to a family connected to their own club.

The game itself started very tight, both sides looking for – and getting – openings that saw goalkeepers tested.

The home side had serious pace in the attack, the Dromore team also producing attacking football of their own, and it was the visitors who broke the deadlock, Brian Lavery calmly placing into the corner from a Ben Martin pass.

Coagh continued to cause trouble playing on the break, and equalised after a quick attack. Dromore though are a determined bunch and drove forward again, wing-back Stuart Wilson curling a superb finish into the far corner, leaving the half time score 2-1 to Dromore.

The second half saw Dromore putting together attack after attack that saw Ben Martin score, taking it round the keeper and finishing from a tight angle.

The slippery Martin was causing his marker real trouble, at times the big centre-back looking like a fish out of water as the Dromore player turned and tortured throughout the half, and it was a Martin cross that provided a fourth, an unfortunate defence deflecting into their own goal.

Despite further pressure from the home side, Dromore kept up the pace and pressure and again Martin turned provider, playing a superb through ball for Callum Barnes to latch onto. Barnes made no mistake, driving through the middle and hitting a fine finish to make it five, leaving the home keeper to fish the ball from his net one last time.

An excellent result for the local boys which saw them leapfrog the opposition toward the top of the table. The man of the match was centre-back William McCutcheon who quietly got on with letting no-one past him.
