Under-14s fall to Tristar

INSTITUTE 1

TRISTAR 3

INSTITUTE under 14’s suffered their second successive defeat in the National League against Tristar on Saturday past at Wilton Park.

The young ‘Stute lads who have lost confidence in front of goal in recent weeks continued to create chances but the finishing is not to the standard required for this league.

Jacob Dougherty who had an excellent game in midfield set up Matthew Lynch who failed to hit the target after five minutes. Diarmy McDermott curled his shot wide after creating space for himself. Eventuallly Stute broke the deadlock when Tommylee Deighans sent a cross over that looped over the Tristar goalkeeper Eoin Matthewson and it found the target. Stute had the better chances but could not breach Matthewson’s goal again.

The game went into the halftime break level as Tristar equalised when Stevie Bulloch flighted a lovely free kick over the Stute keeper .

Institute’s missed chances seemed to take the wind from their sails, they were scrappy and untidy and found it more difficult to deal with Tristar’s direct football.

Tristar grabbed the lead when the unmarked Daniel Doran scored the first of his two with a fine header from a corner. Ryan Henry the Stute winger continued to put in some fine crosses but all in vain.

Tristar broke away in the final minute to finish the game by adding a third. Again it was Doran who latched onto a through pass and finished well with a low driven shot.

This was a good win for Tristar who defended well as a group.

Next match Saturday 1st October away to Portadown.
