Under-14s toast of Carniny sides at weekend

The Under 14s were the toast of Carniny Youth this week, completing a ‘derby double’ over neighbours Ballymena Utd YA with a 2-1 win in midweek.

The Under 16s had a busy week last week when they drew with Loughgall Youth on Monday evening, but came away with a win against Ballymoney Utd YA on Saturday to put themselves into the National League Plate semi finals.

Other teams results also meant they finished 4th in their league for the season, finishing the highest from local teams in the area.

The Under 10 Amateurs progressed in their NWCDYL cup with a win over Portrush, with their Youth counterparts suffering a defeat against Coleraine Academy. The U11s lost out in a seven goal thriller with Limavady up in the North West as well.

The Under 13s had a pleasing win over Larne Youth in their league run in, with a last gasp winner from Sammy Clyde.

COACHES RE-VALIDATE

Three of the club’s ‘B’ licence coaches attended a CPD course in order to provide the necessary revalidation for their licences last Sunday. D

avy Hanna, Jason Hunter and Stephen Armstrong all attended an IFA Continuous Professional Development course- at the invitation of Seaview Enterprises. The course was hosted by Philip Mitchell and headed up by IFA Coach Education Manager, Nigel Best.

TEATIME LEAGUE

The ‘Teatime League’ came to a close on Friday night with teams from local soccer schools such as Ballymena Youth Academy, Chimney Corner and host Club, Carniny Youth, finishing off the fifth session of small sided games as a prequel to the Ballymena Invitational Mini Soccer League.

Carniny wish to thank all their ‘sister’ clubs who helped make the event such a success and look forward to meeting again in Springtime. The club also wish to thank the Showgrounds staff for their assistance and the IFA for their support.

UNDER-10

Carniny Amateurs 3, Portrush 2: Carniny went in front in this cup match when Joshua Balmer opened the scoring on the 14th minute but Portrush equalised just before half -time.

The second half saw Carniny starting to play the passing game they are renowned for and when Kiefer Porter passed to Adam Millar he made no mistake 2-1 Carniny.

They increased their lead to 3-1 on the 29th minute when Millar scored his second.

Portrush were dangerous on the break and they forced a free kick and some how the pulled the score back to 3-2.

UNDER-11

Carniny 3, Limavady Youth 4: The match started promisingly for Carniny who took the lead when Ross Kerr beat a man, and finished low into the net.

Carniny’s luck was to change as Limavady equalised from a stunning free kick from 25yards which flew high into the net past the helpless keeper.

Moments later Limavady were in front when they got a corner on the right hand side. They fired the corner in low and the unlucky Ross Kerr, tried to clear, but the ball sliced off his foot and past Carniny’s keeper.

The second half was as manic as the first, and it wasn’t long until the ball was in the net again, after some pinball in the Carniny defence there was a Limavady striker on hand to finish low in the net for 3-1.

Carniny kept attacking to at least go down fighting, and they got back to 3-2 when Taylor Adger dribbled past two defenders before lifting the ball over the keeper who dived at his feet.

However as Carniny pushed forward to get the equaliser they were caught on the break and Limavady made no mistake to restore their 2 goal advantage.

Carniny got a late consolation when the Limavady keeper saved two efforts but Ross Kerr tapped home.

UNDER-12

Carniny 0, Ridgeway Rovers 1: A very disappointing day for the Carniny U12s when after dominating for the whole match with basically the last kick of the ball went down 1-0.

UNDER-13

Carniny 3, Larne Youth 2: Against the run of play that Larne took the lead with a calm finish.

The equaliser came from Joshua Courtney who weaved past his marker to fire high into the net.

Carniny were hungry for more and soon took the lead when a Kirk corner reached Rhys Ervine at the edge of the box who controlled and dispatched a low drive into the corner.

Larne grabbed a late equaliser when a low drive saved well by Jake Parker but the rebound fell to the striker who tucked it home.

With the game in the last minute and long powerful run from Stewart his cross won a corner and a long corner from Kirk to Sammy Clyde who controlled struck lovely high shot into the net.

UNDER-14

Carniny 2, Ballymena United YA 1: Ballymena struck first when an unsighted O’Brien could only watch the ball go into the corner of the net from a Ballymena free kick on 13 minutes.

Carniny were shaken but came straight back at Ballymena and their Rasharkin-based duo Callum Scullion and Cathair Henderson who gave their Carniny team mates the bragging rights for the second time this season with a goal each in the space of five mins.

UNDER-16

Carniny 2, Loughgall 2: After 20 minutes Loughgall took the lead with an unstoppable shot from 20 yards past Owen Marquess in the Carniny goal.

Loughgall increased their lead when a player ran through and placed his shot past Travis McWilliams in the Carniny goal.

With 15 minutes to go Carniny were awarded a penalty and Tyrone Balmer stepped up to score and make it 1-2. Carniny were pushing hard for the equaliser and it came with five minutes to go when Tyrone Balmer was again on hand to put the ball in the net.

Carniny 6, Ballymoney 2: Carniny opened the scoring when Matthew Shevlin was brought down in the penalty box and he got to his feet to dispatch his penalty kick into the Ballymoney net. Carniny made it 2-0 when after a goalmouth scramble midfielder Thomas Johnston was able to touch the ball home.

Ballymoney pulled a goal back just before halftime when they scored from a penalty kick.

Just minutes into the second half Ballymoney were level when a shot made its way into the Carniny net.

Carniny then took the lead again when they were awarded a free kick just outside the penalty box and up stepped Thomas Johnston to unleash an unstoppable shot high into the net.

Carniny scored again when Tyrone Balmer was able to escape his marker and shoot past the Ballymoney keeper to make it 4-2. Late in the game midfielder Adam Rowe added a further two goals when first of all he placed a header into the corner of the goal and then scored when he ran through to calmly slot the ball into the net.
