Under-15s record win in only Carniny Youth weekend fixture to go ahead

Only one Carniny Youth game survived the wet conditions last weekend when the Under 15s put in a solid performance to take a 3-0 win over Glenavon Academy at Wakehurst.

The Under 9s, 10s and 11s, who had been looking forward to the North West and Coleraine Youth league restart where all left disappointed when the organisers were forced to cancel due to the atrocious weather.

There were no such problems for the latest eight week session of the club’s Football Development Centre which also started on Saturday at the Sporthut indoor 3G facility.

Carniny Youth 3, Glenavon 0: The Under 15s took on their visitors on a freezing cold and windy day at Wakehurst. Surprisingly the pitch was in good condition allowing this to be the only game in the league to be played this weekend.

Carniny took full advantage and stretched their unbeaten league run to eight games moving into third place in the push for promotion.

It must be said, however, that although the ‘All Blacks’ deserved to win, the scoreline was unfair on Glenavon whose midfield controlled the game periodically.

The game was won by three superb finishes. The first came after five minutes from Carniny’s best move of the match. Jordan Hassan sent Jamie Houston away whose cross found Philip Maybin inside the six yard box. His shot rebounded to Conor Doherty who swept the ball low into the corner of the net from 16 yards.

The second came just after half time when Callum McGall turned his marker and smashed the ball into the top corner.

The pick of the bunch came with five minutes to go when Philip Maybin beautifully chipped the keeper from the angle of the box.

The Carniny defence, on whom so much of the home sides success this season has been based, was reliable as ever with Jack Galbraith, James McClean and particularly Simon Evans solid as a rock.
