Under-16s are pick of the bunch of Northend sides in weekend action

Performance of the week for any of the sides under the Northend United/Wakehurst umbrella undeniably came from the under-16 team.

Tony Shaw’s team were in scintillating form in their 5-1 win over Newry side Ballybot Cetic.

Elsewhere in the Lisburn Youth League it was a great day for the Northend teams with no less than four of them recording good wins. Joe Kidd’s U11s lead the way with a comfortable 11-0 win over Oxford Sunnyside.

The U12s, back in action after a number of weeks layoff, had a good 6-3 win over Chimney Corner as they prepare for their NIBFA Cup match against Armagh City next week

Davy Wylie’s U13 team’s great form continued against Lisburn Distillery, winning 4-0, while the U14s again played some good football in their match against Downpatrick but inexperience still lets them down.

Northend United 11, Oxford Sunnyside 3: Northend made light of the wet conditions and Shea O’Broin led the way with four goals, with Billy Bell (3), Ben O’Neill, K Wakefield and an own goal adding to Northend’s tally.★★★★★★★★★★

Northend United 6, Chimney Corner 3: Northend showed no signs of rustiness as they led 4-2 at the interval, thanks to goals from Jack McIlhatton, Tyrone Mitchell, Kevin Cosgrove and Lewis Hector. Hector added his second goal after the break, with David McKay rounding off the scoring.
