Under-17s get Carniny Youth weekend off to perfect start

The U11s progressed to the quarter finals of the Lisburn Youth League Cup after coming out tops in a 3-2 ‘derby’ win, albeit down in Lisburn, against another Ballymena team, Northend Utd Youth.

There was to be no joy however for U13s, who with an under strength squad, despite a spirited effort lost out to Carryduff as did the U14s against Limavady Youth in the Premier Division of the NIBFA National League.

Both U12 teams and 19s lost out in their games.

FOOTBALL DEVELOPMENT CENTRE

The club hosted their third session of their Robinson’s Supermarket sponsored Football Development Centre at St Louis Grammar School on Saturday.

The sessions are open to all children, BOYS and GIRLS born in 2011, 2010, 2009 and 2008. The club welcomes those who have previously attended and NEW players.

GIRLS’ TRAINING SESSION

The FREE girls coaching sessions are proving a huge success for the club with numbers increasing every week.

The taster sessions are on Wednesday evenings at Ballymena Showgrounds 3G.

The sessions see a good turn out with girls there from age 5 right up to age 15!

The sessions are ongoing every Wednesday night at 7-8pm and are open to all girls and anyone interested are more than welcome to attend and should contact Lee Barry on 07920531789 or email – [email protected].

UNDER-11

Carniny Youth 3, Northend United Youth 2: Carniny fel behind when a long ball over the top caught out Harvey Scott and Joel Murray, allowing the striker to go through for 1-0.

Kennedy released Cameron Moody on the left and his run and cross was met perfectly by Sam Magee to score with an expert shot into the roof of the net.

However, this didn’t settle Carniny and Northend returned a goal kick to go ahead again.

In the second half, good pressing in midfield from K McMullan allowed his namesake C McMullan to play a 1-2 with Moody.

He somehow got the ball through to Kennedy who coolly passed the ball into the net to equalise and make it 2-2.

As the game ebbed and flowed, up stepped Moody who fired the winner home from a free kick with his trusty left foot.

UNDER-13

Carniny Youth 0, Carryduff 2: Carniny returned to action with only 11 players due to injuries but they were still competitive against a strong Carryduff team.

Carniny sustained long periods of pressure in the first half but fell behind in the first minute of injury time after a long range effort from the Carryduff player hit the roof the net, despite the best efforts of Telford in goal to keep the effort out.

Carniny started the second half well and put pressure on the Carryduff defence and created a couple of openings but could not convert them.

In the 55th minute a shot from distance squirmed under the Carniny keeper to make it 2-0 to Carryduff.

UNDER-14

Carniny Youth 0, Limavady Youth 1: Carniny started well early on and could have been 2-0 up with chances missed by Lynn and Magee.

The defence of Groocock, Simpson , Anderson and Young was coping quite well until with just 5 minutes to go Limavady got the decisive goal which gave Carniny little time to reply.

Carniny now have the long trip to Ballinamallard next Saturday where they hope to perform better and get the three points.

Carniny Youth 1, Larne Youth 0: On Friday evening Carniny U17s welcomed Larne U17s to the Ballymena Showgrounds in the NIBFA Subway Elite National league.

After a scoreless first half, Carniny started to dominate possession with Jordan Hassan seeing his effort cleared off the Larne goal line.

Carniny scored what proved t be the winner when the Larne goalkeeper, under pressure from Jordan Hassan, could only partially clear a Dylan Hull cross and the ball fell to Curtis McVeigh who fired a shot into the Larne net.

UNDER-19

Carniny Youth 0, SOPFC 2: Carniny travelled to Lenadoon to play Oliver Plunkett in this NIFL Youth League match on Saturday morning.

After the opening 10 minutes Carniny came more into the game and began to create some anxious moments for the Oliver Plunkett back four but the final ball from Carniny was too poor to create any clear openings.

Oliver Plunkett opened the scoring after a period of pressure when a mistake in the Carniny midfield let the Oliver Plunkett midfield through and their striker scored from 12 yards out.

Carniny had the ball in the Oliver Plunkett net but it was ruled out for an earlier foul.

The second half saw Oliver Plunkett dominate most of the possession with Carniny’s back four defending very well.

Oliver Plunkett almost scored again but Shannon pulled off a great save to his left but the home side made it two nil when a mistake in Carniny’s defence let the home striker in to score.
