Understrength Tech share spoils with Kilmore

They may already be condemned to Division 1A football next season, but Larne Tech Old Boys showed some fight in a 2-2 draw away at Kilmore Rec on Tuesday evening.

They made the trip to Crossgar without Andy Bell, Damien McLaughlin, Scott McNally, Darren McNeill, Steven Mills, Peter Wilkinson and Niall Curneen, while Gary Barkley was an unused substitute. That meant a rare call-up to for player-coach Darrin Crawford, who played at left-back.

It was Kilmore who took the lead, courtesy of a deflected free-kick, but back came the Larne boys with Peter Thompson making the most of a rare first-team start.

Rec showed the way after the restart, but the Larne boys had chances before Ward restored parity with a nicely struck free-kick, which zipped past the keeper into the bottom corner.

From that point, either side could have won it, but in the final analysis, a point a piece was probably just about right.

Three minutes into stoppage time two Kilmore players, along with the Tech’s Marty Steele were red-carded.

Larne Tech OB: Burke – Campbell, Steele, Hunter, Crawford – T Smyth, Fulton, A Mulvenna – Cahill, Ward, P Thompson (Houston). Subs (unused) Barkley, Hyslop.
