The 25-year-old centre-back was one of a clutch of United players whose present deals expire at the end of this season.

But with Taylor reportedly attracting interest from clubs on both sides of the border, United officials moved quickly to offer their prize asset new terms.

“We’re delighted that Johnny has signed a new deal,” said manager Glenn Ferguson.

“Johnny enjoys it at Ballymena and he is a big player for us.

“We’re trying to get a couple of people sorted out at the minute.

“It’s ongoing but we’ll hopefully know sooner rather than later.”

Taylor is expected to come back into the starting line-up for this Saturday’s home game against Linfield (3pm) after serving a one-match ban in Saturday’s 3-2 win at Dungannon Swifts.

Shane Dolan and Gavin Taggart are also available after bans, while Ferguson hopes to have left-back Michael Ruddy available after injury.

“We have a few big games coming up but the end result is if you win you get three points, whether it’s against Dungannon, Warrenpoint, Linfield or Portadown.

“We’ve got to keep the momentum going and keep grinding out results and we’ll go out with a gameplan to try to keep our wee unbeaten run going.

“The weekend again showed how tough this league is. Who would have thought Portadown and Cliftonville would drop points?” added Ferguson.
