United in eleven heaven

Newbuildings United...(6) 11

Kesh...(0) 0

Newbuildings United served up a demolition job for a sorry Kesh side, on Saturday.

Right from the opening seconds United were put on the front foot when McIvor set Falconer away down the left flank, the teasing cross he sent over could only be directed into his own net by a helpless away defender.

This warning of things to come were not heeded by Kesh who failed to pick up the big left winger in the next minute and once again he crossed from a good position and this time the onrushing Curry slotted the ball between the keepers legs.

Two goals to the good after only three minutes settled United down quicker than expected and in the eighth minute a third was added when Wallace found himself free six yards from goal, although from a tight angle he coolly passed the ball beyond the advancing keeper where a defender could only help the ball into the net.

The pain didn’t end there for the visitors, the game was still only in the 11th minute when Wallace made one of his trademark surging runs before being upended just outside the box and from the resulting free-kick from the right hand corner of the box Falconer sent a fierce curling drive past the despairing dive of the keeper and into the top corner of the net.

United’s defense were rarely troubled and delt with any threat quite comfortably and they continued to play some nice football on a sticky surface and Kesh struggled to get to grips with it.

The sizable crowd had to wait until the 22nd minute for the fifth goal to arrive when Dougherty broke the offside trap, cut in from the right, raced towards the net and easily beat the Kesh keeper with a left foot shot.

The scoring in the first half was brought to a close when B Scanlon made one of his trademark runs beating a sloppy offside trap to finish similarly to the previous Dougherty goal.

The second half continued in the same vain as the first with Kesh continuing to struggle with the pace of both the forward and midfield players of the home team.

Falconer got his hat-trick with goals either side of Curry’s second. Olphert who replaced King at half time linked well with Falconer and got an assist when he set Falconer free who then hammered the ball into the far corner of the net.

Curry side stepped a defender before passing the ball accurately into the corner of the away goal. Falconer completed his hat-trick when he finished of some fine work from substitute Smyth.

Wallace grabbed the elusive 10th goal when once again he was upended on the edge of the box, this time to the right hand side of the box. He picked himself up, dusted himself down and scored the goal of the game when he placed the resulting free kick into the top corner of the net via the keeper’s hand and crossbar.

Wallace then got his third and Newbuildings 11th when Beattie outpaced the full back and sent over a cross which Wallace slid onto at the back post and finished to the loud ironic cheer of the crowd.

Manager Wesley Robinson said it was the best performance he ever witnessed from a Newbuildings team and should they take that form into their Irish Cup tie it will be a hell of a game.

United travel to Strabane for next weeks league fixture hoping to make it nine out of nine and keep in touch with Oxford who sit top of the Northern Ireland Intermediate League albeit with four games more played.
