Following the sides 2-1 defeat by Wakehurst, United’s boss felt he could no longer continue at the helm and met with the club’s committee to step down from the role. Club Chairman Noel Lamont spoke about the situation, “Chris resigned on Saturday after the match, he felt it wasn’t working for him. We all knew it was going to be a big challenge for him and things just weren’t working for him and so he decided he had enough.

“We are now managerless but thankfully we have no game this week so we will meet tonight (Tuesday) to see where we go to from here. We will possibly look at the previous candidates who applied before Chris was appointed and take it from there.

“There’s no doubt the club is going through a bad time. We have had to build a squad from scratch and from the start of the season we haven’t been able to field the same week twice. Things didn’t get any better on Saturday when our captain Hugh Og Boyle was taken to hospital with appendicitis. We will be without him for at least five or six weeks now.

“The players themselves are very disappointed in the way things have gone. We are sitting with no points after six games and there’s no doubt we deserved something out of Saturday’s match against Wakehurst.

“We just need to have a change in fortune, it’s amazing what a win and three points in the bag can do for a side and I’m confident we will get there.”
