United play first pre-season game tonight

BALLYMENA United will step up their pre-season preparations as they begin a series of warm-up matches tonight (Tuesday).

The Sky Blues travel to Amateur League Larne Tech Old Boys (7.45pm) after an initially scheduled trip to Bangor had to be called off due to the unavailability of Clandeboye Park.

It will be the first time Glenn Ferguson’s panel will have completed some game time after a week of intensive pre-season training.

Among those taking part were former Lisburn Distillery duo Gary Thompson and David Cushley, both of whom have been linked with moves to the Showgrounds this summer.

After tonight’s game at Larne, United travel to Dublin this weekend for a four-team tournament, in which they will play Welsh Premier League outfit Port Talbot Town on Saturday (6.45pm).

That will be followed on Sunday by a second game against either hosts St James’ Gate, or Bohemians.
