United under-12s enjoy weekend trip to Rangers

Ballymena United Youth Academy continued its good relationship with Glasgow Rangers Academy at the weekend with the under 12s '˜on tour'.

The Showgrounds boys enjoyed a weekend packed with highlights including training matches and attendance at the league title winning celebrations on Saturday afternoon.

Tours of Ibrox and Murray Park were also accompanied by coaching sessions at Hampden and Toryglen.

Back at home the under 13s had a good league win over Glenavon, the 14s lost out to Dungannon while the seniors had some important games.

The under 16s season is over after they lost out in extra time to Glentoran in their cup quarter final while the 17s won twice in the week to set up a winner takes all game next week against Warrenpoint for the league title.

UNDER-11

Carrick Rangers 4, BUYA 2: A hugely entertaining friendly played in Carrick between the NI cup and plate finalists. United showed how far they have developed as a side this season. Their goals came from Ben Davidson and Mark McClean.

UNDER-13

BUYA 5, Glenavon 1: Ballymena raced into a 3-0 first haf lead at the Showgrounds on Friday night through Ross McCausland, Bradley McCartney and an own goal. McCausland increased his tally in the second half, collecting his hat trick as Lurgan finished well for their own effort.

Dungannon United 6, BUYA 1: A somewhat harsh result for the 14s as late goals put an unfair slant on the scoreline.

UNDER-16

Glentoran 4, Ballymena United 3 (aet): Striker Andrew Smyth returned from youth team duties in this League Cp quarter-final with a brilliant first half hat trick here.

United were 3-1 up at the break in this game but the Glens equalised to make it 3-3 and secured their winner in extra time.

UNDER-17

Ballymena United 3, Institute 1: United had already defeated Cookstown on Tuesday night knowing they had to win all their reamaining fixtures to have a chance of the league title.On Friday evening goals from Jack Walshe, Philip Maybin and Sam Armstrong saw the sky blues home to set up a winner takes all decider this week against Warrenpoint for the National B league .
