United youngsters enjoy Rangers trip

Ballymena United’s Under-10s, Under-11s and Under-14s – along with a large following of parents and friends – made the trip to Glasgow for their now annual visit to Rangers training ground at Murray Park for a tour and a number of games against the ‘Gers elite.

On arriving at lunchtime, a Sky Blues side which combined the 2002s and 2003s faced the Scottish 2003 and 2004 sides, while the remaining boys received a tour of the training facilities.

In a number of seven-a-side games, the United National champions were as good as their illustrious opponents with a couple of wins for each side on the day, but United certainly impressed the watching Rangers coaches with their flowing football.

It was a similar story for the United under 10s, who faced two outstanding Rangers sides.

The quality of football on display left the United coaches speechless at times and was a joy to watch.

The Braid boys held their own and hit the target themselves – Scott McCullough especially will remember his goal for a long time.

Despite a gruelling schedule of four games in an hour-and-a-half in warm conditions, after a long journey, Ballymena put in a pleasing performance to once again promote the Sky Blue name on the mainland.

The under 14s were not to be outdone in their friendly game against local boys’ club Carbrain FC.

The United side themselves was made up of a number of under 13s,14s and under 15s – and they all played comfortably together and impressed the locals with some stylish play.

The Academy enjoyed something of a goalfest in the second half with efforts from Calvin Purse (2), Jack Walshe (2), Thomas Johnson, Benji Agnew and Jack Millar.
