United Youth Academy footballers left kicking their heels

WITH no real sign of spring, it was a disappointing weekend for the Ballymena United Youth Academy sides as the snow put paid to any planned fixtures.

With South Antrim suffering the brunt of the snow, the Lisburn League programme was wiped out, as was the Coleraine and District League where games were cancelled on the Friday.

The under 13’s game in Strabane was called off and the league leaders face another encounter this Saturday in their final league game at Maiden City where they can clinch the title.

The under 14’s and 15’s are both at home to Cookstown in Ballymena and fingers crossed the United Mini Soccer school will be open for business again. After last week’s cancellation an extra session has been added to the schedule.

Saturday was not a complete loss as a few of the Academy boys came down to the 3g to watch the Northern Ireland senior side train and enjoyed the experience.

Both Chris Baird and Steven Davis are ex Cullybackey Blues players, the forerunner to the Academy at United and the two local Premier League stars took time to speak with some of the United under 13’s and under 15’s present, passing on a few words of wisdom.

NIGHT AT RACES

The fundraising “Night at the Races” is being held on Saturday 6th April in the Ballymena United Social Club.

The club would encourage as many parents and friends as possible to attend and show their support for “Wee Sky Blues”.
