Useful point as Killymoon leave chances a-begging

For the second week running Killymoon faced Dunloy in a game both teams might have won at the Sports Arena in Cookstown.

Killymoon had the advantage early on without creating any goal scoring opportunities.

Dunloy thought they had scored in the 14th minute, from a free kick, but the referee ruled it out. Michael Brown in the Killymoon goal had a routine save to make soon afterwards.

Killymoon’s first chance fell to Danny Maguire who was unable to get a touch on a low cross from strike partner Stuart Donaghy. Dunloy put a chance well over the bar before Stuart Donaghy was unable to convert a Danny Maguire cross.

Killymoon had a chance on 32 minutes when a free kick was cleared and the follow-up effort was kicked off the line. Eddie Davis had a shot saved by the big Dunloy keeper, and Stuart Donaghy put his shot high and wide.

The Antrim men took the lead on 41 minutes from a bad mistake in the home defence. They intercepted a Killymoon free kick headed straight for goal crossed and Karl Fitzpatrick tapped in.

The Dunloy keeper saved another Killymoon shot on his line just before the half time whistle.

Killymoon started the second half taking the game to Dunloy early on. A free kick in the 46th minute went wide, a shot was saved and Danny Maguire was unable to get on the end of a deep cross from the right. Killymoon also wasted another free kick.

Killymoon were back on level terms in the 55th minute when Jamie O’Neill slotted home a direct free kick from 25 yards out. The ball was in the back of the net before the big Dunloy keeper saw it.

Both teams exchanged chances before a Roger Greer pile driver went wide. Dunloy then gained the upper hand, they had a good chance wide and hit the bar. Greer had a header saved and another Jamie O’Neill free kick from 30 yards out hit the wall.

Killymoon were back on top, a corner was cleared and Kieran Thompson forced the Dunloy keeper to make a save,

In stoppage time both teams again went close to claiming all three points: Dunloy had a header wide, while Killymoon’s chance came from a quick clearance, Shea O’Neill in on goal looked like scoring but was kept out by the defender and the keeper, the referee waved play on as Killymoon appealed for a penalty, which was not given and the match ended all square at 1-1.
