United who had Peter Allen in charge of his first game saw his side over come Paul Roddy’s ten men at Wilton Park.

Oxford started on the front foot and they took the lead after just ten minutes when following a move involving Darren Crossan and Emmett Hargan ended with the latter’s centre finding an in-coming Dean Boyle who made no mistake firing past United keeper Corey Wilson.

Minutes later another Oxford nearly went close to adding a second when Hargan’s cross found Conor Loughrey but after rising well he headed wide.

After their slow start United got a foot hold in the final and levelled things in super fashion when striker Ricky Lee Dougherty’s long range strike, which gave Oxford’s keeper Sean McNeill no chance, clipped the post on it’s way into the net.

Soon after Dougherty grabbed his second of the game when David Scanlon’s left wing cross picked out the Donemana man and he made no mistake powering his header home from close range.

Early in the second half the Waterside men nearly increased their lead again but McNeill made a stunning save, instinctively turning Thomas McBride’s close range powerful strike around the post.

Roddy’s men levelled things as substitute Eoin McNeill feed Loughrey and his inch perfect cross found Crossan who gleefully made no mistake turning the ball past Wilson.

Kevin Roddy was sent-off for Oxford and that meant they were on the back foot and they conceded what turned out to be the winner when Stephen Curry’s run and cross from the right wasn’t cleared properly, Graham Moore was on hand to turn the ball home.
