Victory at last for midweek

BALLYMENA Midweek Park entertained Pickie last week with the home team still looking for their first league victory of the season.

The visitors were second in the league and the Ballymena men put in their best performance of the season so far when they stunned the visitors by claiming all seven points on offer after a 79-56 win.

On rink 1 Roy Kernohan, Jackie Barr, Paul Davidson and Billy Scullion were tied at 8-8 at the half way stage of the game, however with two counts of 3 and a count of 4 shots they finished strongly to claim victory by 20 shots to 13.

Joe Kyle, Tommy Crooks, Don McKee and Harold Smyth found themselves trailing by 5 shots after 5 ends against L Burne on rink 2 but the game changed over the next 4 ends when they outscored their opponents by 10 shots to 3.

The visitors gradually clawed their way back in to the game and with two ends left the scores were level at 16-16, however the Braid men won the last 2 ends to win by 21 shots to 16.

Ken Connell, Robert Mark, Leslie Jackson and Jim Cameron found themselves all square at 5-5 against A Wellor on rink 3 however from then on the Braid men dominated the proceedings on their way to a fine 20 – 11 victory.

On rink 4 John Houston, Dessie Shaw, Liam Lyness, and John Greer made a good start against P Hayes to lead by 11 shots to 3 after 9 ends but counts of 4 and 5 shots on the thirteenth and fourteenth ends saw the visitors draw level. Singles were scored over the remaining ends with the Ballymena rink claiming victory by 18 shots to 16.

This week Ballymena Midweek Park travel to Ulster Transport.
