It just doesn’t get any easier for Kilroot Rec who suffered their heaviest home hammering of the season on Saturday, losing 9-0 to Bangor Amateurs.

With Gordon Priestly unavailable, it meant a baptism of fire for young keeper Nathan Armstrong who, to be fair, couldn’t be faulted for any of the goals.

Bangor were five up at the half-way mark, although Kilroot could have pulled one back after the resumption only for Glen McAuley’s penalty to be superbly saved by the keeper.

Things degenerated further for the Carrick boys when Gareth Logan was dismissed by referee David Gillen for an over-exuberant challenge.

Bangor were finding it easy enough against 11, but with the extra man the floodgates really could have opened.

In the end, the Amateurs settled for nine with Kilroot mightily relieved to hear the full-time whistle.

On Saturday, it’s a local derby as Kilroot travel to Mossley FC.
